once upon a cosmic whim
saintly clasped and tightened in
a cruel mouth bled a sweet swan song
a soul that would not be here long
first it was whole
and then it was not
this is a history
one been forgot
a chaos that could be attributed
to a single catalyst
but a more forgiving eye could see
she was merely caught in a midst
no matter the source or the reason for it
an eruption surely happened
and somewhere stirring the boiling pot
was a kid who called herself Captain

She screamed at the clouds of monsters crowding
But it was useless, her prayers were drowning
Out in the sound of her loved ones dying
Nobody expected this
It wasn't what the Voices spit
I've got nothing, but I still exist
Disaster struck, yet I persist

Now Earthquake was
Left without a bone to take
Heartbroke, deeply shaken
All she'd known had been erased &
Nothingness swam all around her
An orphaned witch
Committed to survival
Oh Earthquake...
So she settled into the trees
Learned to hunt, to gather, to feed
& repressed all of her grief
Every precious memory
She stopped praying
But kept on singing
Wrecked and twisted rewrote versions
Of the sacred Voices' Hymn
"Oh I'm feeling free, doing as I please
As I glide from sea to song
I say thanks with buckled knees
& I'm blessed when'er I sneeze—"
& the years went by
& she hardly noticed.
